You never know when you’ll find a hidden gem. The last day before I was leaving Vancouver I was able to visit a market in North Vancouver, Lonsdale Quay. There was a new Market Stall, “Olives On Tap”. Andrew Cameron: Proprietor told us he opened that location 3 days ago.
We were able to taste a few of his selections. The most amazing “Lemon Fused Olive Oil” Or “EVOO + LEMON”. It was absolutely fantastic. Flavourful with lemon notes, would be outstanding with seafood, salads and for those who eat meat, chicken or in marinades.
In addition to this purchase I was able to taste one of their Balsamic selections. I tasted and fell in love with the flavour. The”Traditional Dark Balsamic” is aged using the Solera System for up to 18 years in chestnut, oak mulberry and ash barrels. Low acidity, it’s rich, complex and dense. Not to mention extremely delicious.
For those wondering what the Solera System is, I’m able to refer back to my wine education. The Solera is a process for aging liquids such as wine, beer, vinegar, and brandy by fractional blending in such a way that the finished product is a mixture of ages, with the average age gradually increasing as the process continues over many years. A solera is literally the set of barrels or other containers used in the process. Products which are often solera aged include Sherry, Madeira, Port Win, Marsala wines and Balsamic Commandaria and Sherry Vinegar. Also Spanish Brandy and rums. The result is a very flavourful and extremely tasty Balsamic product.
They have a wide Variety of Extra Virgin Olive Oils and Aged Balsamic Vinegars in two sizes. $12 & $20 bottles are available. They send reciepts by email in order to cut down on paper waste. A great idea I personally hope will become more the norm, then the exception. Take the time to visit and taste the difference. follow the information below:
